Since arriving at Cariocca Miles Platting in 2001, Jonathan’s business has been satisfying the strong demand from drivers employed by various local taxi firms to put cars on the road, ready for work in and around Manchester city centre.
“The Traxz market is the drivers who work for the city’s private hire taxi firms,” says Jonathan. “Our role is to help those drivers source their cars and we offer them a complete service. We can hire out cars to them, or we can offer rent-to-buy, which is basically HP, so they can own their car at the end of the hire period.” First, however, drivers must go into the Traxz office where they are interviewed and their paperwork qualifying them to drive a cab carefully checked.
“We take a lot on trust,” says Jonathan. “If we’re comfortable with the person, then they just have to tell us what kind of car they want, and we do the rest. We source the car and get it prepared, serviced and valeted and ready to drive away, fully insured with the appropriate local authority mini-cab licence badge. When the cars leave us, each one is protected by an immobiliser. Provided we’re paid as agreed, then we supply another week’s code so that the car can be started.”
In addition to the finance business, entrepreneur Jonathan also runs a property business from his base at Cariocca, with seventeen rented residential properties currently on his books. “The people at Cariocca are very supportive, they bear with you,” says Jonathan, who gives the example of Cariocca support for his property business. “Occasionally we’ve been allowed to use a small vacant unit to store stuff like replacement windows free of charge,” says Jonathan. “Cariocca always look after us if they can.”
Traxz has traded from Cariocca in Miles Platting since 2001 and Jonathan has no plans to move. “I’d been running the business from home before that,” explains Jonathan. “Cariocca attracted me partly because it’s central for the city’s taxi drivers, and also because the accommodation was a very good price. Initially we took one of the smaller units and then after a year we moved into the larger one we have now. It was dead easy to change – a bit more deposit, a bit more rent and that was that, done.”
Jonathan singles out Cariocca security as a big reason for staying on the park. “The security is fantastic,” he says. “The gates are locked at night and there’s a security guard here all night. If tenants want to come in and out, they simply use a pass card. It means we can work late if we feel like it, and accept visitors in the evening if we want to. The flexibility is great. Some people on the park only work weekends!”
Jonathan’s verdict on Cariocca: “We’ve been here at for twelve years now and we’re more than happy!”
